Deleting, Hiding & Resizing Rows and Columns

Updated: Feb 9, 2023

The most straightforward method to delete a single row or column is the same as inserting rows or columns, except you need to choose the option to delete a row or a column in the contextual menu.

You can also select the entire column heading or row number and perform the same action.

However, if you need to delete more than one column or row at once, you’ll need to select multiple columns or rows to see the options to delete the number of columns or rows you’ve highlighted.

Hiding rows and columns

You’ll be pleased to know that hiding rows and columns are easy peasy, too; this is useful when you want to keep the data, but you just don’t need to see it right now. It’s also handy if you do not want people to see sensitive information.

Resizing rows and columns

Resizing columns is probably more helpful than resizing rows, but you can do both easily. If you hover over the dividing line to the right of the column header, you want to resize; you’ll see a little blue line and an arrow appear.

You can click and drag the column to make it wider or narrower or double-click it to resize to fit the widest content in that column automatically.

Likewise, with a row, you’ll need to hover over the dividing line below the row number you want to resize; you’ll see a little blue line and an arrow appear as before.

You can click and drag the row up or down or double-click it to automatically resize to fit the height of the tallest content in that row.

Give it a go; you’ll use these three options a fair bit, so it’s best to try it out yourself.
